- First of all, 9 PM Rebel Afnan greets you with its juicy fruity notes: a fresh green apple and a sweet-n-sour pineapple that we have met many times, a chord made extremely popular after the international success of Aventus Creed. In addition, in the composition’s fruit salad I can smell fashionable strawberries and traditional citruses covered with a sweet creamy syrup of vanilla and salted caramel.
- Exotic fruits is the trendiest theme in perfumes right now. From apples, watermelon and pineapple, the industry has gone all the way to strawberry, raspberry, coconut, lychee, passion fruit and mango. (What’s next? Banana? Guava? Acai?)
- The citrus chord of 9 PM Rebel is sharper, bolder and more dynamic compared to Aventus. This is how the dry woody-amber odorant Ambrocenide works in compositions (and it’s not the only amberwood material here!), intensifying and further raising the citrus notes. (It seems that the standard Ambrox used in Aventus in the IFF version, plus birch tar and quinoline leather is not enough anymore.)
- In a strange way, along with citrus and lavender (which is not stated in the composition), it comes to life and blooms. It smells perfect on the ambergris background, recalling Luca Turin’s quote about the 3D effect of ambergris in lavender colognes. Ambergris is recreated here by several modern amberwood odorants put together in a powerful accord, giving both a powerful woody kick with a perceptible smash cooling effect, and a characteristic animalic hue, along with the necessary tobacco, woody and marine undertones.
- In about an hour or two, when pineapple fumes dissipate, leaving a dry, rough woody-amber block with Evernil and caramel, wrapped in musky layered clothes, you realize that here is an homage not only to Aventus.
- In 9 PM Rebel Afnan there is also a bow towards Baccarat Rouge 540, but made restrained and in masculine way, saying that we know all your feminine secrets, and we will still do it our own way, thank you, without standing out and showing off, in a masculine way. Also some glances towards the blossoming Sauvage Dior and Invictus Rabanne families could be found.
- But the prime example, if I may say so, was Black XS Rabanne (2018), which was made into a genius of wooly amber stamina and dark (as well as sweet) power, to which was added a delicious and much-loved fruity assortment topped with pineapple.
- The 9 PM Rebel Afnan fragrance is already available at the brand’s official online store in Eau de Parfum concentration, with 100 ml bottles priced at USD 59.50. The first bottles also appeared on online auctions.
